Save Bernie's Farm!
Save Bernie's Farm!it's amazing - while the current
administration wages their illegal war of aggression, -
as top level members of the cabinet the white house
staff and the justice department (not to mention all
the rest)- as elections are stolen, citizens are
spied upon without warrants or a clue, while who knows
how many people have been renditioned by this
administration, labeled "enemy combatants," jailed
without charges and tortured without habeas corpus or
legal counsel - while they lie, brazenly, to
congress and their constituents we the people...
you get it. i cannot actually complete the thought
as the wrongs deceptions crimes and outrages are
so numerous and so wrong. how it all relates to
the link above is simply this: this man, an
educated professional who advocates the use of
marijuana for medicinal purposes, has been living
in a halfway house for a year, has incurred legal
fees of around $300,000, and is now being
threatened with the loss of his farm under
forfeiture laws - and why?
He was growing pot on his property.
so, it's like this: the war on drugs is in
reality a war on families and otherwise
(by and large - exceptions there are of
course, but then, think again, to the
gw administration, the most despicable
rogues i know of at this point in time)
decent citizens.
The war on terror is nothing less than
war on the american way of life.
it is a war on our democracy, a war on
the rule of law. they have declared the
constitution and the bill of rights
expendable. as expendable as the lives
of the innocent civilians killed in
their wars, as expendable as the lives
of american and coalition soldiers, as
expendable as the truth, which they go
to great lengths to avoid having to share.
the world is upside down these days.
right and wrong are inside out. the
criminals inhabit the highest offices
of a once admirable and striving
government of, by, and for the
people. Now it's more like the
people - specially the poor people -
are paying for a government of, for and
by greedy murderous neocons with
visions of hegemony dancing in their
heads and their hands grasping tightly
to the wealth they plunder and waste, and
call their own.
and gw plays guitar and campaigns
while a great old city floods and people
drown waiting for assistance. miners die
in collapses that were entirely predictable
but not avoided because the CEO's of the
corporations that consider profit
much more important than people now
run the agencies that once upon a time were
created to act as advocates for the less
powerful and rich. and for the natural
environment...now, these are expendable
as well. most of the Oglalas don't
have access to clean running water?
read this, too:
A single scandalous fish in a river full of crimes
and rambo murders bekah, and spends 2 years 3 months
in prison, while bernie languishes in a halfway
house and risks financial ruin and homelessness
and he does not even have a victim, at all.
more opposites brought to us by the most
spectacularly terrible administration in the
history of the united states. victims are
criminals and killers are presidents. treasonous
felons are tireless devoted public servants
(as in Scooter Libby - and never did i hear
the white house's lack of outrage or disappointment
or their failure to mention at any time that
the outing of Valerie Plame and the lying
to congress, the grand jury, and the people
are crimes when committed by a "tireless devoted
public servant" questioned by a mainstream reporter).
could go on for days, unfortunately. but what's
the use. if you can spare it, Bernie has a paypal
link for assistance with his legal bills and
the campaign to keep his home.

FRONTLINE/WORLD . Rough Cut . India: The Missing Girls | PBS
FRONTLINE/WORLD . Rough Cut . India: The Missing Girls | PBS
Been Watching PBS on my computer,
including Bill Moyers Journal
and Frontline
this program is somewhat discouraging to an aging hippie who
embraced feminism over 30 years ago, but of course i am here
in southern california, in what used to be the greatest country...
'nough about that. what it is in India can be boiled down to
three statements:
1. the population in india is over one billion and growing by
41,000 people per day
2. Unlike in America, where "a son is a son until he takes a wife,
but a daughter is a daughter for all of her life," in India the
old folks are cared for by their sons, and
3. to marry off a daughter the family must do whatever it takes
including risking financial ruin to provide a dowry to the
prospective husband and/or his family.
So - i don't know how long ago this program aired. But what
really made me want to post about it is: I HAVE THE SOLUTION
Bottom line is that india is producing almost twice as many boys as
girls, due to the realities mentioned above. and the thing is, the
situation that is driving the prospective parents of India to off
their girl babies - usually prior to viability as far as i know -
in about 20 years, will give rise to another
situation that should put the families with daughters into a
wonderful position of turning the tables completely:
there are not going to be enough wives to go around when
all these kids get to marrying age. So those that have
gone ahead and allowed their daughters to be born, when the
dearth of suitable females becomes reality, should just
say to the men and their families: "Screw US putting a
dowry together! If you want your dear son to marry and have
kids of his own, YOU pay us the dowry. We'll be accepting
bids, with non-refundable deposits totaling 10% of the
total proposed dowry, and when our dear, precious, rare
female child has decided on the husband she wants, we'll
let you know."
"Don't call us, we'll call you."
think about it. the solution to the problem is contained
within the problem.
Foresight is a grand ol' thing. wish i had enough to apply
to my own life, but all i request regarding this solution
to the Missing Girls of India problem, is...i dunno, the Nobel
peace prize?
hehehe

Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy: Why you can't reason with a Republican
Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy: Why you can't reason with a Republican
good stuff That the best way to protect the environment
and have peace in the Middle East is to have petroleum executives
run the world's largest consumer of energy.
That the best way to put money in the pockets of average
Americans is to give tax cuts to the wealthiest 1%.
That turning a record surplus into a record deficit is
prudent financial stewardship.
That the future-tense document "Bin Laden Determined to
Strike in U.S" was "an historical document."
That never once convening an anti-terrorism task force
and sitting vacantly in a classroom while America was
under siege is the highest standard of protecting our nation.
That abandoning a great American city in its time of need
is further proof of our security, and of the decency and
organizational prowess of our leaders.
That it's better to discard unused fetuses from in vitro
fertilization than to use them to cure terrible diseases.

Petition to gw to sign the War Spending Bill
Give 'Em Hell Harry
the comments i added directed to gwbush, with absolutely no
expectation that this will make a whit of difference even if
every single voting citizen of the united states were to sign
it:
end the war
and resign before you are impeached. prepare to pay the
consequences for the myriad crimes committed by you and
your administration.
not that i expect you to listen to me when it is obvious
you do not listen to the people, your advisers, or anyone
or anything that does not fit your twisted idea of what you
should or will do. nor does it appear to bother you in the
least that thousands of people have lost their lives prematurely
both here and abroad because of your installation of inept
cronies into important government positions, and because of
your wrongheaded insistence on making the US the bully of the world.
be smart, be humble, be realistic for once in your life.
sign the bill

You Are a Ring Finger |
You are romantic, expressive, and hopeful. You see the best in everything. You are very artistic, and you see the world as your canvas. You are also drawn to the written word. Inventive and unique, you are often away in your own inner world. You get along well with: The Pinky Stay away from: The Index Finger |
