thoughts on the bailout
i moved out of los angeles
or more concisely, the cost of living in los angeles kicked me out.
all the way to NC, where i was fortunate enough to find a really
good job and my rent is a mere 1/2 of what it was back home. but
here's the rub: two of my surviving children, my grandchildren,
and my daughter's bones are still in CA. my third son is so
homesick he tells me he'll go live in a foster home if only
he can go back to CA. NC is not home. i'm an economic refugee.
the fucking ceo's bankers and financiers can kiss my ass and
scrape their way across the country as far as i'm concerned.
after all when you got nothing, you got nothing to lose.

what i hate about the way this is playing out is that the
republicans will get what they want (the bailout) while
pretending to be the only members of congress who are
responsive to their constituents (90 to 1 AGAINST the bailout).
this is a lose/lose for everyone in this country EXCEPT the
ceo's bankers and financiers. as usual the republicans have
politicized this, and the democrats are too responsible to
respond in kind. but at this point i think they should each
and every one of them, take the pulse of their constituents,
and let that consensus guide their actions. if we go down,
we go down together and we can blame ourselves.

i don't think we'll go down. there were no WMD's. it was
lies, lies, lies, why should i believe them now? i don't.
i simply do not.

i'd go for this: take all the money we're pouring into
wars that should not even be happening into new technologies,
health care, education, and infrastructure. put people to work,
then put working people into all those empty homes. life is
going to go on. let it be equitable.

FASCISM: by Michael Parenti

Today I want to talk to you about what that Republican
Congress has been doing to you, and to your families, and
to your country.

Understand me, when I speak of what the Republicans have
been doing, I'm not talking about the average Republican
voter. Nobody knows better than I that man for man,
individually, most Republicans are fine people. But
there's a big distinction between the individual Republican
voter and the policies of the Republican Party.

Something happens to Republican leaders when they get
control of the Government or even of a part of the
Government--something that shocks and dismays many
of their own loyal supporters.

Republicans in Washington have a habit of becoming
curiously deaf to the voice of the people. They have
a hard time hearing what the ordinary people of the
country are saying. But they have no trouble at all
hearing what Wall Street is saying. They are able to
catch the slightest whisper from big business and the
special interests.

When I talk to you here today about Republicans, I am
talking about the party that gets most of its campaign
funds from the special interests in Wall Street. I am
talking to you about the party that gave us the phony
boom of the 1920's, and the Hoover depression which
followed it. I am talking to you about the party that
gave us that Republican 80th Congress.

The Republican Party today is controlled by silent
and cunning men who have a dangerous lust for power
and privilege. The Republican Party is fundamentally
the party of privilege. These men are now reaching
out for control of the country and its resources.

It is your votes which will decide whether or not
they have their way. That is why I have come out
here today.

I want you to know the facts.

NOT terrorists. peaceful protesters
preemptively raided and arrested and

Republicans want to reach out and join hands — no, really,
they do
:
If there are any Republicans reading this, you might
as well stop. Your party leaders have made the guidelines clear.

I am someone who believes Barack Obama would make a
better president than would John McCain. Therefore,
you’ve nothing to find here but a waste of your valuable
time, enlightened mind and huge, compassionate heart.

I’m just another American deserving only of your mockery
and scorn. Why people like me are not rounded up and put
on the next boat to Gitmo must seem a mystery.

But then, that’s what makes the USA the great, flawless,
omniscient place it is, the country that never has to
apologize to no one ’bout nothin’. Even traitorous,
elitist, bleeding-heart dumb butts like me are allowed
to live here and reap the rewards created by the people
of the Party That Knows Everything.

Republicans.

great article - please read it.

the republicans have nothing - but scorn.

Daily Kos: Who Cares?
Daily Kos: Who Cares?:

As a society we cannot expect any individual to
withstand the questioning of 100's of millions of
voters. We place some of our diminishing trust in
journalists to ask the difficult questions and to
report the responses. Reporting of such information
(in a clear and unbiased manner) is a crucial pillar
of a free and democratic society.

apparently Palin doesn't want to be interviewed.
is in fact refusing to be interviewed. as a respondent
to the above diary noted, "this is an interview. you
don't answer our questions, you don't get the job."
